PCMall

Just got this in an email. 90 buck over budget, but it looks like a nice notebook for the price (if you don't go Apple)

I want to reiterate agreement in not buying an iPad as a full replacement for a PC, UNLESS.... all you do on your PC is browse the web for common content (news, movies, etc.) and lack of Flash support isn't a show stopper, play simple video games, email friends/family, or read e-books.

I use my iPad with that in mind, as my photography/art portfolio, and an occassional movie viewer.

If she needs something for more than that, then a laptop or netbook will be better for her.

Thanks Stony, seems I remember one sitting there, or very similar. I like the security options it appears to have. Will do some reading.

I see they can be had on tigerdirect and fleabay for a little cheaper; some are refurbs tho'.

I already got that.

After this one, it's her buying decision once she gets situated and has some idea of what her new budget is going to look like, esp with readjusting to paying sales tax.

I appreciate everyone's input fersure!

Sounds like an iPad will work. Their resale is higher than an Android tablet too.

I bet she would also get by just fine on a smartphone though. Already have an iPhone? It can do Facetime if it's an iPhone 4/4s, or even just a 4th gen iPod Touch. Android phones and iPhones also both have Skype.

Neg on the iphone- I'd rather she picked one up down there; don't know how the carriers are; her Razr is still suitable for now. I've got a dumb phone; it's all I need.

Found out my boss has both igadgets, but then he's geeky; it's his job to be. I'm just a wire head. He's been pretty helpful too; got some apps on his that would also be relevant for some of the stuff she does.

Neither of us have made those kinds of purchases in quite a few years; other priorities have prevailed.

The stupid question is the one that goes unasked, so I've been asking!

Ipad is great for emails, browsing, games, reading, etc.

Not good for word processing / excel / flash websites (VERY frustrating that i need to get my laptop out to view them).

Otherwise i like the ipad2... i use my iphone 4s as a personal hotspot when i'm out and about to get 3G....

Laptop in my future too, but not any time soon; not in a hurry.
