Help with 4D55 air, oil and fuel filter part numbers? Glow plugs?
      #1260673 - 03/06/12 05:17 PM

So I'm a new owner of an 87 Montero converted to the 4D55 from an 85 Dodge D-50, and I'm having a hell of a time finding simple maintenance part numbers. I think I have the oil and fuel numbers, but the air filter is still elusive. Here is what I've got so far, but I don't have them in my hand yet to verify fit:
Fuel Filter - 3128 NAPA
Oil Filter - 1324 NAPA, or is it the 1067 NAPA?
Air Filter - 6283 NAPA?

There are two kinds of oil filters for sale on Ebay right now that state there are 2 sizes; a big one and a little one.

I don't have to use NAPA, that was just a recommendation from a fellow 4D55 user. Recommendations on acquisition are also welcome.

Any advice on glow plugs? It has been recommended to use NGK 1229, 10.5 volt. I know these are not stock specs, but recommended from the diesel swapper.

Thanks,

For future reference, these were the correct part #'s:
Fuel Filter - 3128 NAPA
Oil Filter - 1324 NAPA
Air Filter - E-2871 K&N

LOL, you my friend need to be very careful taking advice from diesel swappers. Those guys are sketchy, especially that fool in Seattle, he's a total schmuck!

Thanks for the K&N Part number, those are nice, re-useable and offer good protection!

Didn't you read the sticky at the top of this forum? All these parts have been cross references and verified.

In his defence, he is working with a 4d55, and that list specifies 4d56. Im just saying...there could be a bit of room for error if you were a new owner and such.

That's the word on the street, and he doesn't use protection.

LOL! Fair enough - I hope I didn't come across as harsh - I just saw the same part numbers in your list, and I know the stickies often get overlooked...

Most of the cross refs I've seen lump the 4d56 and 55 together. There are lots of exceptions of course, but the main maintenance items seem to be the same, which is why I could walk into a shop up here in Alberta and get off the shelf filters for my 4D56 JDM Pajero. We never got them here either, but we did get a little RAM here in the 80's with an oil burner under the hood... Luckily, some of them even fit my current 4M40 too!

The NAPA FIL1067 and FIL1324 Oil Filters are not interchangeable. They have different thread sizes:

(from the NAPA website)

FIL1067 - 26mm x 1.50mm
FIL1324 - 20mm x 1.50mm

(the 1324 also does NOT list an Anti-drainback valve)

I have a 4D55T out of a Ford Ranger and it takes the 1067 filter. I thought I should post this since the 1324 is four times cheaper than the 1067 filter so I'm sure some folks would try.

You've got it. The 1067 fits the 4D56 and the 4M40 as well, so I've continued to buy the same filters. Wix uses the same number, 1067. Might be the same exact filter?

Whats an anti drain back vavle? If the 1324 doesnt have it, is that a problem?
