I have a friend that is looking to sell a nice '62 Willys pickup with a V8 conversion. I am trying to ID the engine. On the surface, the engine looks like a Chevy small block, but the distributor is on the front right. However, there is an apparent mounting area for a dizzy in the left rear, too?? The distributor is mounted in a Pete Jackson aluminum housing that also spaces the water pump away from the block.
Help is requested, please.

Interesting. Are there any casting marks in the block? Specifically, belw the cylinder bank on either side?
Chevy V-8 conversions are the most popular due to availability of engine and similarity of mounting points.
Any indicator as to type of carb?
One picture hase some block casting numbers. Are those just the cylinder firing orde?
What type of tranny and t-case? If they have been changed, there may be a casting number in the bell housing.

Trans/t-case are stock issue: 3 spd, Spicer 18, OD, PTO for winch.
I haven't moved the spiders out of the way looking for block numbers.

Move the spiders and check for block casting numbers.
Also, Advance Adapters and Novack are the main providers for bell housing ant tranny adapters for engine conversions.
Looking for bell housing numbers may give you a clue. It would help to have housing depth measurement.
Also, were the engine mounts relocated??

No, no, no not a V8 
My dad has a 64 with the Hurricane flat inline 6. This truck is NICE, I would love to have one here in the states. How much is he asking for it, if you don't mind the question  Back home they are $$$$$$$$$$$$$ 
I am also curious on what they did to the difs.

Looks like a Buick 350, common in early 70s wagoneers and buicks of course.
They can have T90, T98, TH350 trans bolted to them. Correct bell housings will be needed. A chevy th350 wont bolt up.

Buick 350 is WAY different. This engine has positively been ID'd as a SBC with an aftermarket distributor and oil pump drive. The Buick dizzy sits at in the about the same area but is located by a integral cast timing/water pump cover.

I don't know for sure what that engine is. I find it very hard to believe it's a Chevy.
The dist is general motors. The covers aren't like ANY I've ever seen on a Chevy.
Please somebody educate me on how a cam driven oil pump and dist can be moved from the rear to the front of an engine..
Yeah I know if one had access to an elaborate machine shop it could, perhaps, be done.. but really!
I'd guess an older Buick or possible even an olds or even a pontiac. It does still have a 12V generator. Which ages it considerably.
But Chevy? Really?

Well I have corrected myself! That thing is most likely around a 1963 289 Chevy engine that was built for marine or industrial use. So it was produced for boats and generators..
I'd like to have the thing just for grins and kicks. Can I get the guys number to call?
