01 Kia Sportage 4x4 DEAD No start No power Needs jumpstart everytime
      #1212617 - 06/01/10 03:45 AM

I turn the key – nothing – no power – no lights – no clock - completely dead.
The only way to get it started is to jump it.
After it is started it runs fine till I shut it off – then it goes completely dead – flatline
No matter if I shut it off for a long time or a short time - same thing.
No matter if its hot or cold - same thing- dead.

The battery is good
The alternator is good
The starter is good
Terminals are clean
Any ideas?

Did Someone load test the battery? Or maybe do a volt drop test through the terminals. On my 01, the positive cable has corrosion where the wire goes into the crimp on the ring terminal. Every once in a while, i have to wiggle it to get it to start. But while testing, it all showed good. Good luck.

Your battery can show 12 volts but be very low an amps. If you can jump start it fine it almost has to be in the battery or battery cabels/terminals.

When you are jumping it, what are you connecting to? Straight across the battery or battery +ve and a good engine earth?

If it is straight across the battery then the battery is cactus (test by keying on the starter and measuring the voltage across the battery). If you are using an engine earth then the -ve to engine earth cable is corroded.
