      #1184503 - 11/06/09 07:49 PM

No drips from the water pump,,,
all new hoses,,,
no chocolate milk in the oil and not seeing steam out the tailpipe,,,,yet.
Dang

I know I torqued the heads to the old specs.when installed.
I have a head gasket set somebody gave me many years ago. FelPro , real dark brown or black. Hope these are a good type.

Dave, my Raider is using water too, for about the last year. While I was changing the water pump in our GMC last week, I smelled the maple syrup smell next to my Raider, too. I found a freeze plug under the exhaust manifold to be spitting a little. I poured in some Barsleak that seems to have temporarily halted the water use, for now. I really enjoy driving the Raider, but I too, will have to work on it eventually.

Might be a simple as intake manifold gaskets. Mine was leaking there a couple of years ago. If (with the aid of a flashlight) you can see coolant in the valley between the heads chances are good it's either the intake manifold gaskets or the o-ring on the pipe that runs the length of that valley and fits into the back of the water pump. Hope it's something simple.

Orrrr... you could possibly have a leak in the radiator. Mine is currently weeping out the seam in the top tank, and I have to keep an eye on the coolant level.

I will jump to a conclusion you guys are running straight water with no anti corrosion additive in these?
If this is the case you will find allot of steel parts such as core plugs and coolant tubes getting thin.
At least get something in the system to prevent corrosion.

Finding a water leak when the engine is hot can be tough since the water evaporates real quick when it gets out, may not even drip to the ground.

Same here.
After an initial panic, I got mine down to pinhole leaks in the rad.
No major worry - just a regular check and top-up.
