Ironman suspension...Did anyone put it on their Gen II?
      #1184073 - 11/03/09 06:35 PM

There was a flurry of posts a while back, but I didn't see where anyone actually bought the Ironman kits off of eBay. If you did I would love to hear how it worked out on your Gen II (ride quality on/off-road, lift, etc).

they are kinda pointless i think since they are only for an inch of lift. They were listed as a 2 or 2.5 inch lift a while ago and the guy had like 10 sets so i emailed him about hooking us up with a better price if i could arrange a group buy. After a few emails he found out that they're only for an inch of lift and everyone who was interested backed out.

I have them, they are pointless. Shocks all blew up with in a year. Torsion bars were no better than cranking the stock ones. Rear coils did lift about an inch but still bottom out with a load.

Some body needs to try the front springs off a 4x4 full size Dodge pickup in the rear of the Montero, If any body has a set kicking around let me know. Or air bags but I don't know much about those.

Airbags are awesome for utilitarian purposes. I love mine when family come and stay or I have to carry a heavy load. However, if you want to use them for lift when off-road then you will reduce flex a lot. I leave the valve out of mine when wheeling.

Full-size dodge truck springs are the correct diameter for a Montero? I would have thought the front springs rates would be too high for the rear anyway, no?

To continue the somewhat offtopic...

What year Dodge are these springs for specifically? I'll get a set from my chassis supplier and try them...

OK thanks for the input. The same seller only has the rear springs left, but he will sell them for $50 for the pair, which is 1/3 of the cost of the comparable OME springs.

So maybe I should post my goal here and see what you all think is the best option. please keep in mind that this is my daily driver, it has 10 yr old shocks and springs, they need to be replaced. I want a new set up that will give me a ride somewhere between the medium and hard setting on my current suspension, increase my level of articulation (longer extension in the shocks?) and increase the ride height. I want to set my rig up for back-country trails/exploration, not rock climbing. Yes the Rubicon and the such sound sexy, but an expedition rig that I can use to haul me and the family all over N America on multi week camping trips is sexier.

Given that what would you all recommend? I am still leaning towards the new OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks and Medium duty springs and if/when the bumper/winch go on the OME torsion bars.

For the rear springs, I'm going to use the stock units and add 2" spacers available for the Toyota Sequoia. Already have them but need to install them.

For the fronts, I'd like maybe an inch more of clearance but that may not be doable. We'll see how far torquing them more will get me.

Hmmm, I guess I can share. I'm going to go OME. It's acc.liquidator on eBay. I emailed him directly to see if he had anything left and all he has are the rear Ironman coil springs (model # MITS020B) which is the medium duty springs for late model Gen 2/2.5 Pajeros.

Correct me if wrong, isn't the OME and Ironman kits 1-1 1/2" of lift only?
