Search for "4.3l" and be sure to set the date range to in the past year... yes it really does work and welcome to the wire!

Oh and if you have difficulty, feel free to send me a message or ask right here. I'll be happy to teach you how the search engine works step by step.

Yes Landraider/Curtis is one good source of information as are many others actually.

Dude! You've been registered for two years and finally posted. Alright! Welcome to the 4x4wire!

I would suggest searching out Curtis and his "Land Raider" which has the 4.3L conversion. Don in Canada has performed this swap, too.

Good luck!

You might want to buy a parts truck rather than just an engine
you need a driver's drop transfer case
you want a short tranny/transfercase combo (s10/s10 blazer have 700r4/np231 combo that is a good fit)
you might need a 2" bodylift

some stuff i've learned in my researching

I'm working out a deal with a friend of mine who just rolled his 96 Blazer so I should be getting that within the next few weeks so I will be able to get it all in that package. I have a 2" body and a 2" suspension lift so hopefully that will be good. thank you all for all your help!

Give 4ePajero a PM - He has done it in his Gen1 before he put the Toyota 2.0 in.

It now has a 3.2 DiD so he knows about transplants in the Gen1

A Starion / Conquest transplant looks to be considerably easier. I was thinking / researching the 4.3l upgrade route and decided to refocus on a 2.6l Turbo engine instead. It should arrive here on Friday :-)

Starion swap is much eaiser, but much different. I loved the on road performance of the starion setup, but the low end power needed for very technical driving was not there. I even ran without an intercooler, and power curve was far from linear. I had problems with needing a lil bit of power to climb out of a bind, or top a hill, and ending up with all 4 tires spinning away as the turbo spooled up.

IMHO to run a starion motor in a technical offroad sort of rig, you're going to need SUPER low gearing in the diffs, and the transfer case. This way you could have better control of the motor as it transitioned from no boost into boost.

2 completly different animals for completly different purposes.

I don't think youre going to find anyone else that has done both swaps.

Good points for sure! I use this as my DD and off-road only a few times per year. Looks like he has the 4.3l nailed down. If that were my case I would have probably gone that route too.
