Well, dang it all.

#1 = 170
#2 = 170
#3 = 115
#4 = 155

Poured some oil into #3 and the cranking pressure came up to 150, so I guess it's got a stuck ring. I'm tempted to run it like that and see if the ring will work loose on its own.

Also, I noticed that the pistons have 3 valve relief cuts. I remember seeing that some variants had 3 valves/cylinder...... but this head has only 2/cylinder. Are the pistons supposed to be that way? - or has someone been monkeying around?

I wonder if that has the original head on it. I do not know what years had the 12V heads. I guess I need to learn that.

According to RPM Machine, the '84-'89 Chrysler Colt Vista pickup had a 2.0L 12v engine.

The G63B DASH 2.0L SOHC Turbo was a 12v variant.... don't know the years.

Here's a list of engines - looks like Mitsubishi made it from '83-'92 - many sold in other countries:

I think it's time to consider a change in plans.

Is there a 2.0L DOHC 16v with the exhaust on the passenger side when RWD mounted?

It looks like the '84-'89 pickups had the G63B 12v variant. That means the pistons are correct and the head has been replaced:

But another engine builder supplier says it should be an 8v.

I think I want to run away from this 2.0L engine group as fast as I can.

What in hill is one of them?

Caps is showing the jet valve head with interchange to a Galant for the 2.0 pickup.
I will dust off my 1989 microfiche, I know they have not been updated or altered. When in doubt, go to the original documentation.
All of the 4G63 up through 2000 or so that were sourced in country will have right exhaust. These would be known as 1st & 2nd gen engines. In general, overseas the turbo and NA engines all got turned around in 95-96 depending on the car line and just the the NA engines did here other that the 3K GT.

I'm now thinking about either an Eclipse 2.0L DOHC N/A or an '88 Montero 2.6L with a Caravan non-jet head swap. The 2.6L should be a narrowblock and should bolt into the truck and onto the transmission, right?

I'm hearing from a co-worker that the Eclipse 2.0L DOHC in a Mighty Max is a screamer - even without the turbo option, but I'm wondering if the 2.6L Montero would be a better choice for truck duty.

I would not overlook the 2.4 from a pickup or MS.

A Sport would probably be hard to find here - particularly a 2.4L.

Today, a fellow (who sells Mustang parts) I met some time ago - who knew I liked Monteros - came to the yard and told me he was approached by another fellow who wanted to buy a couple of Mustang spindles for $100 from my friend, who really didn't want to sell them. He saw the fellow had an '88 Montero... and thinking of me, said he would swap the 2 spindles for the Montero. The deal was agreed and my friend drove the truck home. He offered the Montero to me for $100 (with a good title). I have not yet seen it, but for $100 I said I'd take it sight unseen. I can always sell it to the yard for more than twice that.

So, when he brings me the truck, I'll have a running $100 2.6L engine - and after I sell the rest of the truck, the engine will be free.

That's a big part of why I'm interested in the 2.6L - but I want to make sure it'll drop into the engine beds and bolt up to the Mighty Max transmission. The rebuild kits are much easier to find for the 2.6L as compared to the 2.0L confusion stuffs - plus, the Caravan non-jet head should be easy to find and eliminate a lot of jet vale elimination work - provided everything bolts up.

Maybe - it's tempting, but I'm not sure I want a turbo M/T. Are any of the turbo trucks here on the forum M/Ts?
