I did not have any Gen 2 parts for this upgrade, so I modified what I had. I will replace these modified parts when they show up at my local wrecking yard. Using yellow handle tin snips for the backing plates and my hand held cut off wheel for the clips, this is what happen.
Top of the backing plate without being cut.

Bottom of the backing plate without being cut.

I had to bend the hard brake line just a little bit to get it to fit. I also modified the brake line clips by cutting off one of the legs. Swap the left one to the right side and the right to the left side. The next picture show the clip and hard line in place.

I did go back and smooth up the edges.
All part (1995 Gen 2 3L) were purchased from NAPA.
I notice when pulling my boat today, that this was worth the effort.
EDIT: It's been discovered that you need to also verify the brake rotor is thick enough so your pads (once worn down) won't slip out between the caliper housing and rotor . You MUST REVIEW that thread before performing this mod.

I put M.Sport front calipers on my SWB 89 3.0.( THey are exactly the same calipers on gen 2s) I trimmed my original dust shields, too. I was concerned a blob of grease from the ball joint might get on the rotors and contaminate the pads, because of how much protection I removed. I went back and got the dust shields off the M.Sport and put them on last week.
The shield bolt holes lined up with the knuckle, except the top one that bolts to the caliper is off about 3/16". I installed new Gen 1 brake hoses and they work fine. I didn't have to bend and metal breaklines, I just kept the metal lines and brakets on that came with the M.Sport's Calipers. On the new shields I had to trim off a pie shaped piece about an inch long on the bottom of the shield, cutting along a crimp from the edge all the way to the edge of the crimped circle center area . The bottom of the new shield overlaped the bottom part of the caliper. I got the brake parts off a 98 2wd M.Sport. Same brakes ,,,easier to work on/ remove...
