Pajero service manual -> electrical help
      #1067774 - 01/07/08 09:00 PM

Hi guys,

Short story, after changing out a fuel filter, I put the batteries back in and connected the first one.

Problem I ran into is that the positive connector on the 2nd battery was touching the solenoid backing plate and needless to say, sparks flew.

Results so far.

1. melted ground wire from solenoid backing plate to firewall.

2. blew one solenoid.

Bought a new solenoid and ground wire. Installed both.

When I turn it over, absolutely nothing comes on. No interior lights, nothing.

I'm going to get my mechanic to start diagnosing it but would appreciate any input/help.

I also need a service manual, specifically the electronics schematics. I'd appreciate some help on this as I'm pretty much stuck until I can get my hands on one and am without transportation now.

The Paj is at my good friend Jesse (Parkside Auto) in Langley now. Anyone in the area that has a service manual, I'd appreciated if you can shoot me a PM.

Don, sent you a PM as well.

Thanks guys,
Jesse

ps. crossing my fingers that it's not the computer.

I assume you checked all your main fuses under the hood? If nothing is coming on at all, start there. I can't see how a fried computer would kill all the lights.

Getting closer.

Upon inspection, all fuses in eng compartment look good.

Out of boredom, I cracked them open and did find a break in the 40A fuse that is located under the 20A blue fuse.

I put in another one, and as soon as I turned on the key (no interior lights at all came on) it blew. That instant.

One thick white wire comes out of it and goes to one of the relays boxes beside one of the solenoids.

Don, thanks for the schematics. I'll need more info as well. Shot you a PM.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Searching for a needle in a haystack is seems.

ECU/computer's toast.

Will track down a new one.

What a dummy mistake

My mechanic/buddy will never let me live this one down.

If it whacked 40 amps, something crispied. You'll hafta post an **oops** picture if you open up your ECU to inspect for damage.

Spider,

Thanks for the offer but it's a different #/pinout.

It looks like the #'s have to match as there are different versions out there. Some with dual ac/single ac, different accessories, mounting holes, etc..

I've contacted Autorec (where I imported it from) as they are great guys to deal with and are searching for one for me.

I'll check with rocky mountain and then start searching locally as well.

Found a few on ebay in the UK so I've contacted them as well.

The search is on

Jesse

ps. After speaking with their head mechanic (autorec) he told me that apparently even the slightest voltage spike can toast these ECU's. He's gotten some with a bad starter not grounded properly that fried the ECU.

Ah well.
