I vote woodgrain. If you go to orange depot you could get some awesome paneling that would work really, really well.

FWIW things that do more than 1 function never seem to work that well imho.

I have a garmin GPS I use for work, NUVI 750 model. Mounts to the windshield or w/e you want pretty much. Works EXCELLENT since I use it every single day driving a truck all over the place.

Just imho..

I tend to back this idea, recently lookin gfor a new HU for my wife's car, i really wanted a multi-function deal too. In te hend I found that it was just more cost effective to buy two seperate units, not too many options for all-in-one that really do a good job of everything without being super $$$. IMO you'll want a GPS from a good company so you can reliably get new maps... in the end, that's what they're really about, the maps/service.
That said, since you're building teh dash ground-up, you could probably easier make a nice mount for the GPS unit and a seperate lareg screen if you wanted that.

Oh and carbon-fiber coverin gwould be bad-ass... but not real fitting for the age/style? I guessst he quetsion is, are you going for new & stylish, or classy?

I think I'm "swaying" to a wood grain "finish" , as I think this BEST fits the overall project .

so some mock up on the dash ...

I have been working with a "wood guy " ... and here is so far what we have come up with ... please ... this is NOT the final position of any of the components .. so dont look at that !! just the color is what i'm interested in !

It's a Cherry wood vaneer .. no varnish yet , so it will look a little "glossier" once done ... but it kind of gives an idea ...

I think it will really bring the INFERNO RED exterior into the interior .. I'm considering some door panel incerts as well :)

what do you think ?

also looking at a "tiger wood " incert as well ... so !!

so it finally "cooled" down to 33* C (90*F) outside ... and was able to get some work done ..

as mentioned .. I decided to change the dash again .. so I welded up the clock , hazard, and dimmer hole .. and cut the NEW gauge holes .

the frame of the dash had also been butchered by the previous owner ..

so I cleaned it up , and started to make some new supports . I have more to do , to get the sterio supported .. but I wanted to make sure everything was going to be ok before I did all the work .

also , now had to RE-mount the heater controls

so , now I'm happy ....

and "installed"

Now this dash I like a lot better too.

Are those a pair of cig lighter ports for toys at the upper right above the stereo I'm seeing? If so, that's a nice upgrade the boys will appreciate.
