My tranny hung up too. I ended up taking the T-case off then I could easily install the tranny with no problems.

I was dove hunting in South Texas along the Mexican border last weekend and just got back today. My friend is coming down next weekend and we're going to pull the engine and tranny together. We're hoping we can pry it apart without cutting into the bell housing. (that's the worst case so we can remove the clutch basket and flywheel bolts.)

You gonna stop by and see me on the way back to ATL?

LR,

I would have stopped by but I don't think I could convince the Delta pilot to divert and stop by...

I got the engine out today. There was a needle bearing resting near the bolt holes in the crankshaft after we pulled the flywheel so it looks like the pilot bearing was frozen on the input shaft.

I have some cleanup to do on the engine and fuel system work in the Montero and on the engine before it goes in the Montero.

One step closer!

Just a quick update from my end as well.... progress is slow due to school. Got my oil pan and pickup issues settle thanks to some stock pieces from PA_JERO. It also looks like I won't have to have a new PS hose fabbed. The fitting on the mitsu hose will fit the Ranger pump as long as it reaches, so we'll find out for sure when I try to place the engine. Next order of business is figuring out motor mounts.

I may have some extra mounts, if you are refering to the motor mount brackets that bolt to the block.

I have a pair from the ranger, but they are nowhere near being the same as the 2.6 mounts like I heard they were. Can you post a picture of the mounts to see if they're different than what I have? thanks,
Dylan

The motor mounts off a 2.6 D50 interchange with the ranger. The D50's bolt on farther back than the ranger. The extra bolt holes are hidden by the ranger mount.

Ya, I didn't think mine would bolt up either, but when I took the other mounts off, the top holes weren't used and hidden in behind. It still didn't look like they would work until I actually held the new mounts right up to it.
The rubber part of the mounts, I had just left in the truck, but found out you have to modify the driver side. There is a U shaped iron that goes around the outside of the rubber (pass. side doesnt have this) So either cut the rear of the U off (I did) or swap mounts side-for-side. The iron wont interfere with anything on the pass. side (I should have swapped them, but engine was in and hindsight is 20-20). This iron hits the solenoid on the starter if left in place.
