Big Bear Run 19-20 May
      #1000721 - 05/09/07 12:51 AM

OK guys, I was talking to Jon and Carlos about an Anza Borrego run during this time frame but the temperatures AB are already in the low 100's, so I decided to move the run to Big Bear instead. Should be about 2 hours closer to the guys in the north as well. Anyways, the plan is to meet up Friday night (18th) or early morning Sat(19th) at the Crab flats campground(provided spots are available). Wheeling sat and sun, heading home sunday evening. Temps in Big Bear are currently in the low 70's in the day and down to the mid 30's at night. Wood is usually available at the camground for a fee so bring some if you have it. Last time I was there the camground boss had no problem with 2 vehicles per campsite so doubling up is ussually not a problem on the campsites.

Trails in this area range from easy to very difficult. The Plan is to run the more difficult selection of trails including but not limited to Gold Mountain, John Bull, Holcolm Creek, and Dishpan Springs. There are a couple other unamed Black Diamond (Most Difficult) Trails that I want to run as well. 31's on a Short wheelbase and 33's minimum on a LWB are strongly reccomended to avoid body damage. Some sort of traction aid in the rear axle will help as well.

I know its short notice but just wanted to make sure I threw it out there for anyone who wants to go. So far its Me and Jon..In the meantime I'll post of a few pics of the last run to give you an Idea of the trails.

My first '4x4' run was Dishpan Springs in a LUV 4x4 with 225/75-15s. Hit the left rear corner of the bed and stalled my seatbelts. Real fun. My uncle and his Dodge floated the boat correctly. I later bought the Dodge, applied a service body and 4x'd it for work.

Might be up for it Justice. I should have my sliders & trailing arm patches by tomorrow. Only thing left will be my locker which I'll be doing by this summer.

Only other thing is the cost of gas to get there but we're all facing that.

That would be my backup plan if I can't get the ARB in. I mean it was good enough to run the Con before. I'd want to get the outer/inner seals replaced though on the blue one before I swap that over.

The Big Bear trails are just outside the City of Big Bear in Riverside right? Just checking the round trip distance so I can calculate fuel/mileage to budget this.

I don't have my Wells Guide in front of me so if you can give an intersection, gate entrance address, etc. that would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Justice!

Big Bear sounds better for us up north because of the travel distance, I'd like to go!
I'll check with my wife just to make sure we don't have anything going on that weekend. I'll confirm tomorrow

Some news... my guy at Mitsu Motors is gonna try and make it. He apologized that Tosh (the guy who was supposed to come to Pismo) didn't make it but I told him that a wife in the hospital is a pretty darned good reason why he couldn't make it.

He did say if he's coming he'll need to ride with one of us. Are we staying at the same campground for Saturday night? If not, then he'll need to ride with someone else because my rig will be full.
