Mysterious Gold Box in Driver's Side kick panel
      #773529 - 08/25/05 08:45 AM

Sorry, no photo. It's a small box, about 1/2" thick and 3"x3" square. I believe it has four wires to it (2 yellow, 1 green, 1 black I think). It sits above the speaker. What is this thing? I don't have intermittent wipers so that's not it...does the 1228062 ecm use an elapsed timer module?

It is just like winning the golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Now you get to go the Isuzu factory, and if you are the best 4X4 owner at heart, then Willie's going to give you the isuzu factory!

Seriously though, I have an 89 as well, I better check my truck too, I also have a 5 speed. I will post back and le toyu know if I have one!

I'll have to check the RPO plate to see if I have the "Mysterious Gold Box" option code.

Maybe it monitors the headlight fluid level. ;0

I believe it is called the VSS buffer. For some reason, I can't lay my hands on my manual right now.

VSS buffer makes sense, especially since the speedometer is different than it would be in an S-10 and the VSS output might be different than the ECM expects.

Or, it could be the Flux Capacitor.

I don't know if the truck will do 88, not without 1.21 gigawatts.
