I think it would look really cool if you could take the top off! I like that about my 85 runner. How many jeeps and FJ-40s do we see with the top off.

Then Toyota should go ahead and build a real, modern Cruiser for North America with all the HD items that we want.
Other than solid front axle, how much heavier duty do you want? This is basicly a mini LC100. Really, not that bad. I mean, if we have to live with IFS, it's a hellava lot tougher than any simliar sized SUV and will likely complete against the new H3, when it's released.

Now, THERE is a commuter vehicle for the MASSES! No more parking space arguments.
I'm on record, I am pleasantly surprised by the FJ Cruiser, I love the motor (which was my point, it was a good tradition to break with the 2F), locker otional, proven stuff, and it sounds every bit as capable as a stock 3rd or 4th gen 4Runner, not bad at all.
And for everything else, I have access to a plasma cutter.
Oh, and the Gladiator tire on the side? Its a better place for the spare for FUNCTIONAL reasons. You don't have to look through it, it doesn't take up all the bed, you can put a bigger than 29" spare on it with no ill effects.
Remember the ol' CJs that had that? Korean war Willys? Early Jeep pickups?
I don't date back to the model T.
Model A maybe...

Other than the 8" front diff, what components does this share with the 100 series Cruiser to cause you to make this statement?

Aha. Now we are on to something, and I think that you are absolutely right on this one Brian. These vehicles will have similar styling and capabilities, although I'd expect the H3 to be slightly lighter with the aluminum 5 clyinder motor, and the H3 will offer a 4:1 transfer case. Still I would expect them to be well matched against each other. I am trying to talk my way into some H3 testing with Rod Hall soon.
