SCOUT Dana 44 Axle Spotter's Guide

At one time or another, everyone has talked about slapping a couple Scout Dana 44 axles under their rig. Which year? What tread width? What ratios were offered that year? Here are some answers to those burning questions painstakingly assembled by jefe.

All front Dana 44's were of the open Cardigan design. All rear Dana 44 axles were semi floating in design. Notice the 1967 through 1970 axles the width was very close to the wide track Jeep CJ axles of the 1981-86 eara All axles listed are of the 5 on 5.5" lug pattern.

How about spline counts on those early rears. What year did they go from 19 to 30 or were any of them 19 spline? Also, how does track width relate to width from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface in these examples. I never have been a fan of track width because it relies on variables of wheel width and offset. WMS width is fixed no matter what wheels are used.

I'm pretty sure they made 800As in '71 as well as 800Bs. I've seen '69 and '70 800s with one piece shafts (presumably 30 spline). All the earlier onces had 2 piece shafts from what I've seen (presumably 19 spline).
