Great job so far fellas! Thanks for going the extra mile to help a member! Looks like Powell got help as a byproduct!
BTW, great thread title! Love it! I know its frustrating as hell when something doesn't work, but from here, it looks like you've got some good minds on it, and you're listening/experimenting. You'll get it solved yet!

Yes, Phil. I consider myself lucky to have all these diesel heads helping me out. The snow's flying again up here in Maine. Once it clears and the temp comes up a bit I'll return to the tach. Will post the results once I have success.

Toasty, if I had an extra diesel tach hanging around it would be yours. I want to hang onto the one I have so that I can eventually figure out how to make it work in my Raider. They show up on eBay UK now and then.

I've still got grease on my hands from today's marathon last-ditch effort to get my tach working, and I'm happy to report success. I had a W terminal installed on my alternator and ran the wire through Dakota Digital's DSL-1D signal interface. At first the tach kept jumping from 0 to 1 at idle and to 2 and 3 when I revved it. I discovered a wet power line, so I changed it out and now the tach works fine, holding steady. Thanks to all you guys who pitched in with your advice. It looks like there are a number of ways to get a gas tach on a diesel vehicle to work.
