Well, thanks to Lloyd's quick find in the local Albuquerque paper this weekend, I will be taking delivery of my new to me 95SR when I head up there for work this week.

Lloyd: The plan right now is for me to head out Tuesday early afternoon and be in ABQ Tuesday evening at some point. The owner says he'll keep it at his shop so I can pick up the Montero Wednesday, so no need for you to go out of your way to keep it at your place. I'm still trying to round up a co-pilot for the journey so I have a way to drive my new toy back to PHX. Details to come.

No need to worry, sounds like you did get the deal. I checked the one I posted out today, and it's total crap. I mean it has the potential to be a good truck, but it spent time in Wisconsin and has a TON of rust all over the under side. I don't know how much of it is superficial and how much might affect it structurally, but if I were to buy it, it would be a lot of work before I would trust it.

If that was it, that would be one thing, but I couldn't drive it today for two reasons. First, the battery in it is OLD. It's weeped out a lot of acid, and so there's no way to start the truck right now. Seller claims it ran well before the battery died... the old salesman adage buyers are liars doesn't just apply to buyers. If it would start though, one still could not drive it. It has been pad slapped bad and it looks like the brakes were only done whenever the backing plate made contact with the rotors. There almost isn't an inner face to the rotor, it's so thin that I can flex it. It's quite frankly amazing that the rotors didn't explode, but the seller did have a pad fall out!

$4500 for almost 88K miles less than my truck, you got a great deal....

Had a Wisconsin truck on a Colorado trail ride event once. We gave him the CB handle "Pots and Pans". Things fell off each day from rust. What was really weird was things EXPLODED from elevation change. What a piece that was...Now we know why it was 2,700.00

Wow. Sounds like that $2700 asking price was a tad ambitious. I've never even HEARD of brake rotors in that condition. And being from northern IL, I can imagine how bad the rust was. I had several trucks lacking wheel wells in the bed due to rust. Was kind of fun watching rooster tails of snow shooting out of those gaping holes though.

Thanks for posting up your review Dylan. I've been doing that whole "buyers remorse" thing all day when I saw the price of that one. Not that I think Lloyd would steer me wrong, on the contrary. I bought the truck based off his opinion of it and NO photo. Plus I'm a head case sometimes. I freak at all large (to me) purchases. It's a sickness.

It has a slight idle problem, so I'm going to run some Seafoam in it a few times on the way down, and if it's still acting up, I'll start looking at the IAC valve and see if that will clear it up. Then comes the lift!!

Nice work guys! Welcome!

I can vouch for the SR 3.5 dohc being a decent engine with great power. I'm running 35's w/out issue on mine. Glad you didn't buy a later model with the 4.2 gears instead of the 4.6 gears in the 94-96SR's (maybe even 97SR).

Thanks for the welcome off-roader!

Yeah, after looking at Toasty's wife's 94SR, and talking with him at length about the DOHC vs. SOHC (as well as many other Montero related items) I'm happy I ended up with a DOHC as well. Heck, I'm happy to have one at all right now! Let alone in the color I wanted. Major bonus. Lucky twist of fate that I would be in Lloyd's neck of the woods right when it popped up in the paper. I'm going to re-gear to 4.90's at some point regardless of getting the better gear ratios of the two. I'm coming from the diesel truck world and want as much pull as I can get. When I went from 3.08 gears to 3.55 gears in my old Mustang, it was a pretty significant difference and to me will be worth the cost down the road to get the 4.90's. If the exchange rate gets better in the near future, I'll be getting a set of the Aussie gears as well budget permitting.

I have to admit, your rig is what started me on the whole Montero path since I started looking for what I wanted to build many months ago. When I saw the pic of your rig next to a Mercedes, and saw how sharp it looked I read as much as I could stuff in my head. Hoping I can turn mine into as nice a rig as you have built. Really looking forward to getting this thing built up and hitting the trails! Would like to make it out to your area at some point. Maybe the Sierra trip Lloyd tempted me with if I can arrange the funds and assistance to make that happen! I've never had the vehicle, or the terrain to do any serious wheeling being from the flat Midwest, so this is going to be an adventure for sure. Will be picking it up tomorrow, so I'll get some pics up when I can.

converted another one...

LOL, happy to oblige. Whenever you do make it out here, let me know. BTW, there will be some new changes to mine in the next week or so both in appearance and enhanced abilities, so keep your eyes peeled for my updates on that.
