Today:
I started the day by pulling the power steering pump from the 5.7 to install a more appropriate power valve for my application. After reinstalling it, I sorted through wiring, got an idea for how I want to lay out the loom and took out the Toyota A/C stuff since we plan to adapt the GM compressor into the system.
For the rest of the day, I tried my hand at fabrication in making a bracket for the Howell computer. I have a new found respect for those who can dream up even these simple mechanisms. I'm generally pretty good at generating ideas, but today I stood around scratching my head for a good 3 hours. In the end, though, I prevailed and got the computer where I wanted it. Tomorrow, I'll pick up where I left off and finish making the holding strap, paint my handiwork, and plug in the connections for the 'puter. I should have some pics to post up on this piece later. Fabrication is straight up challenging (but fun)!
My Viair onboard air kit also arrived today, so I'll get pics of that up once I start the installation. First things first, though...I want a running engine!

I finished mounting the computer. I'm really happy with how it came out and am glad I chose this location as there is plenty of firewall to penetrate for the ALDL connector and engine management fuse block.

My radiator also came in today, and Ron worked his magic. You can see the surface area of the cooling surface. This thing is PERFECT! The mounting is awesome, and solid as can be while still sitting on shock absorbing isolators.
Tomorrow, Ron will work on the shroud, and I hope to finish the gauge plate that I made out of 1/16 aluminum plate. Next week the truck goes out for exhaust, and I hope to get this thing running soon!

Well, it's been a couple of weeks, and it seems like little progress has been made. All of the little stuff takes SO much time. Finally, today, the FJ60 went to the exhaust shop! I picked up the last puzzle pieces necessary to start it up, so that should happen Monday or Tuesday when it comes back with exhaust. I can't wait!
In the mean time, I took a couple of pictures of stuff that is not so exciting, but important nonetheless.
Twin sticks

New custom battery boxes

Notice I said "boxes"

The 200 amp solenoid for the dual system

I hope to drive this thing next week!

Thanks!
Today, I picked it up and installed the OME Heavy lift kit. It is the PERFECT height for me, and once I get my 33s on the wheels, this thing is going to be sweet. There is NOTHING like pulling hills in 4th gear without down shifting and accelerating the whole way. 85 is no longer a valid limit to the speedo...
I'm stoked to be driving this thing. Thanks to all who've commented. I'll post pictures of the final engine install, along with some pics of it with the OME lift on, later this evening.

Well, I'm a little late getting to this, but here are some pics for anyone watching...
The final engine pics. I loaned one of my batteries to someone, so I don't have the dual system completely wired, but the solenoid is in and ready to go. The fan shroud is a custom one made to go with the custom radiator. The radiator is installed as it came, straight off the shelf, so if the day comes that I need to replace it, I won't have to do any modification to the new one. The exhaust came out GREAT, and I'm perfectly happy with the tone and performance. NO droning with this Magnaflow...
Custom reluctor ring for VSS
Some OME suspension pics
I really need to get those 33s mounted...

I picked up another item over the last couple of weeks. This piece is from wagongear.com and converts the FJ60 tailgate into a storage locker. Kevin makes a VERY nice product, and I'm more than happy to sport it in my rig. I plan to keep my ARB tire plug kit and recovery strap in there for now. I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it.

And, finally, filled

Next up is getting the 33s mounted, and I'll start installing electronics. Lots left to do, but I plan of driving the hell out of this thing...

Lookin good Jon!
If the camper wasn't going to be on the back of the Taiga Taco most of the time, I'd like that storage locker for the gate. Is that metal or heavy plastic?
Toss your flares and jumper cables in there too for easy access.

Thanks, Margie.
The frame is powdercoated metal, and the door is very thick ABS plastic. I'll be ordering the side panels that he offers in the near future. They'll also be locking with the same type of latches and will allow the side pockets to be used for mounting equipment and more storage.
I encourage anyone to check out Kevin's webpage. His product speaks for itself.

I was just looking at what looks like a wire harness in the gate there; you might consider making that lay down with some metallic duct tape (the good stuff) to keep things from snagging and ripping its lips off.
