Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

I should have taken the General though. They offered it, and I declined, and then went home, and proceeded to pass the practice tests about 4 times in a row.

So... Yeah. Passed my tech.

Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

Always.

I bought a HX370S marine VHF radio. It's a neat lil thing. Water proof to 3 feet, and it has 40 channels that you can program to whatever you like. I've got all the 2 meter local repeaters programmed in with offsets, and tones, and a few simplex 2 meter channels also.

SO... While it's NOT a ham radio per say, It will get me on 2 meters for now, and be a great tool for comms during a disaster. It'll even do local Police, and ambulance freq's if I wanted.

When I get into a more permanent location, I will be doing some HF stuff, and getting a tower installed. BUT for now... It'll have to do with my "outlaw 11 meter" rig for hf monitoring, and my lil HT for local comms.

I also plan to have a mobile setup in my vehicles as well.

I really don't know what to get just yet. I was going to just copy you, and get a rig just like yours... cause you obviously know whats up.. but when I saw the price, I thought I would hold off some, and do some more research.

If you still have my number, give me a ring, and I'll be glad to give you a run down on why I spent what I did and how much I haven't even used the damn thing. If you need my number, I'll PM it to you. I don't know as much about "what's up" as some others here, but I'll be glad to show you what I don't know...

Congratulations on the upgrade! HF is both useful and fun.

Good luck with the qso's.

Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

Going to be doing some PSK soon. Got a FT-450, and a signalink interface. Also just got my ft-2900 in for my truck. Still need an HF antenna, and tuner.

Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

Well look at you working the PSK! The digital modes are fun. I competed in the ARRL Rookie Roundup for RTTY a couple weeks ago and had a blast.

As you start to make more contacts you may even consider spicing up your page on www.qrz.com. It's always fun to look up people you make contact with.

Have fun!

Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

Still no 2900 2 meter rig. It's MIA with UPS.

Got my FT450 all set up. QSO'd with Cuba, Spain, Cali, and Venezuela yesterday. 100 Watts with my G5RV 6 foot off the ground at a 90 degree angle to itself. :) I'm happy.

Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

Try 17 meters. It's been pretty open to Eastern Europe recently. Try between 2000-2300 Z (GMT)

Still no 2900... freaking UPS.

In other news.. I QSL'd Russia tonight. :)

Question..

Why are there SO many Cubans on the air? What is going on down there?

Re: Hey Everybody... Guess what??

From California I often hear Cubans, but it's usually the same few and they're only on 20 or 15. From your QTH you can probably hear them on 40 and 80 as well. I'm still in need of a Cuban QSL card for my collection of countries.

Come to think of it, I think I still need MS in my collection of states.
