When it's a Toyota Land Cruiser. See if you can spot it. http://www.jeepwrangler.com/ I wish there was contact info for that site. |

A jeep is not a jeep when made by Mitsubishi and Mahindra. The LandCruiser is just a glaring error. |

Haha, Yes! I wonder if it was planted to stir up controversy and web traffic. |

Actually, Toasty, the Jeep Cherokee, which is uni-body construction is a very capable vehicle and worthy of the Jeep badge of honor. I have owned CJ-5 and Cherokee in the past. I currently have a 94 Wrangler and a 2010 4-door JK. They all have strengths and weaknesses. A jeep is not a jeep when some other vehicle is mis-identified as a jeep. But, I have seen jeep frame, engine, and running gear that was covered with a Ford Pinto body. Was that a jeep or Pinto?? As long as you have 4x4 and low gears, you have a prescription for fun. So, enjoy life in low gear! |

In other parts of the world, anything that is a 4WD non-pickup is called a jeep. Kind of like what happened to Kleenex... |

Quote: Yeah quite a few of my friends wheel cherokees and they are pretty capable, i posted the above more in response to the IFS post. The newer Cherokee with IFS was a good move for the truck in my opinion because those older models didn't have the torsional rigidity to hold together with solid axles at both ends. I have repaired my fair share of cherokee unibodies. (If anyone would like to challenge this flex the cherokee out to the max (no sway bars) and open all of it's doors, report findings back here). The only thing i really dislike about the vehicle is the hype surrounding it, if you read Petersons4wheeldrive or the other affiliated mags you know what i mean. I really wasn't trying to start a jeep vs whatever thing argument again. Been there done that rode the ban'd bus home

In my experience the 2-door model was more desirable as they are less prone to body cracking. I have personal prejudice against IFS. A few years ago, a co-worker knowing I was into jeeps was looking for one for his son. His question was: How good of a jeep is the Trooper model? |

Perceptions and assumptions - I see it on a frequent basis. A specific word morphs into a perception. Jeep has become synonous with 4x4, regardless of specific brand. There are many 4x4s I would like to run through certain obstacles. While they may all perform adequately, they will have a hard time measuring up to expectations. The argument about the best 4x4 are interesting and display the passion we all share about our choice of the best vehicle. While we are out having fun, the unaware ones are wishfully dreaming they could be part. And yet, they see the words, form perceptions. Some get the terms correct and fit in. The important point is having a 4x4 you can build to your desires and enjoy your trails. Happy trails and perhaps we can share a campfire some day..... |

Quote: ...as illustrated by the story behind this license plate... Brian (owner) got a lot of comments from the uninformed saying "nice Jeep"... and inspired him to get the plate for that reason.. and not to diss Jeeps in general..

My comment about IFS was aimed more at the Libertys and Patriots. I certainly don't have anything against IFS (I drove a Trooper for nearly 15 years). That said, I really am enjoying having a solid axle in front. |
