Re atf temps, the 89fsm has a note on page 21=86ish that the light comes on at 122*F, which is obviously wrong, as the normal op temp range for the atf is 122-176*F. Somewhere that I can't seem to find now, one of the manuals says the light comes on at 276*F, which is way too high, and I think there's a tsb that corrects that to 176*F, which makes more sense in light of the above op range. The stock sensor switch is pretty buried in the flowing fluid and this keeps it isolated from the exhaust heat (but it seems quite sensitive to getting wet). I wonder if Larry's gauge sender is in the same spot as the stock sender switch, and is adversly affected by exhaust heat?. I seem to remember reading that for every 10* increment over 170, you cut 10% off tranny life...
The l/u tc should have lower atf temps than the non-lu, since the primary source of heat is the tc slip, but Larry's should be a lu unit, as is the one Jason just installed...
