Can I rebuild my own AX5 transmission?

My local transmission guy wants $1500 to rebuild my transmission. I can pull it out and put it back in, so my question is, is it possible to buy new bearings, syncros, seals etc.. and do it yourself? Could I just replace what is broken or worn out, and reinstall it? Thanks for your opinions.
