1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee: 4x4 will not transfer to 2x4 until I turn off my Jeep

This is the third issue I'm having with my Jeep. I can transfer the truck into 4x4 but when I shift back to 2x4 nothing happens, it remains in 4x4. When I leave the shifter in 2x4 and park it for the night, in the morning it drives in 2x4. All fluids are good; the guy at the parts store said that because I have the Select Trak its probably electrical. Any thoughts on how I should proceed.

thanks
