This past year has been full of surprises and not many of them were very positive. The thought of taking a break and getting together to spend a weekend offroading in one of Southern California’s most amazing areas sounds like a great opportunity to relieve a little tension and have a little fun. You deserve it and have certainly earned it, so come on out and enjoy the famous Truckhaven hills while we still can.
Mark your calendars as the members and families of Tierra Del Sol invite you to the 47th annual Desert Safari, held on March 6th, 7th, and 8th.You can get all the detailed information about the event and for the first time, you can pre-order the famous Desert Safari t-shirts (they sell out every year) and register online at www.tdsdesertsafari.com. Registrations postmarked by February 16th, are only $50 and the on site registration cost is $60. Included with each registration are a dash plaque, bumper sticker, and one ticket for the $100,000 in raffle prizes. The club has been working very hard to make this a fun event for the entire family.
This year we are returning to the Truckhaven hills in the Northern Area of the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, for a weekend of exceptional wheeling, awesome vendors, world famous raffles and the opportunity to support the fight to keep our lands open.
Base camp and TDS headquarters will be located 23 miles east from Christmas Circle (Borrego Springs) on S-22 or 3.0 miles west of state highway 86. The exact GPS coordinates are N 33 15.691 W 116 00.857. It is hard to fathom that a family oriented group of 4-wheeling enthusiasts created a club named Tierra Del Sol and have been organizing an event like Desert Safari since 1964, but it is true, and quite frankly we need the offroading communities support to keep it going.
You will have the opportunity to see the latest products, talk directly to the experts and expand your arsenal of information with over 80 vendors present onsite. There will be family oriented games and events for all ages. Of course there is the famous TDS Safari raffle, this year with over $100,000 in prizes and KGB’s radio personality “Chris Boyer” as the master of ceremonies.
On Friday onsite registration starts at 12:00 noon and closes at 10 pm with registration reopening at 6:30 am on Saturday.
The Saturday run will leave from campsite, promptly at 8 am for a trip in Sandy Washes, Rocky Canyons and Scenic Ridges of the best 4-Wheelin’ in the area. Easier routes are marked “Green” to by-pass some of the harder/steeper trails.
On Sunday we will have a GPS Safari Run and a ROUGH RUN both starting at 8 am.
So if you are still “thinking” about registering, check out the clubs updated website at www.tds4x4.com or go directly to www.tdsdesertsafari.com which will give you all the details, including pictures of last years event and all the information you could ask for concerning camping, location, timing, runs, online registration, downloadable registration packets and the ability to order those fabulous t-shirts of all shapes, sizes, colors and styles.
More you say, well how about Sunday Breakfast served from 6:30-11:00 at the West Shores Seniors Club, only 2 miles from headquarters.Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego is best known in the offroading community for two things – 47 years of Desert Safari and consistently contributing to organizations fighting land closures.
For all the right reasons we are asking for your support, even if you cannot make it to the event, please consider registering and supporting one of the oldest and most committed clubs in the 4-wheeling community. Your participation as a registered guest allows our club to make these donations and hopefully we can all enjoy another 47 years of Desert Safari’s.
Please join Tierra Del Sol at the 47th Annual Desert Safari and help us keep our public lands open.
