The 4th Annual Rubicon Trail Foundation (RTF) Cantina for the ‘Con was held over the Labor Day weekend and was a great success on many levels. We had a new record of over $20,000.00 in raffle prizes and raised $20,083.00 for RTF! We can’t thank our vendors and users enough for their generous support.
This year’s event saw the cooperation of several clubs working together to support the Rubicon. Here’s a list of clubs and the duties they shared: |

GREAT FALLS, MT (September 2, 2008) -- A coalition of recreational groups has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District of Montana challenging the Travel Management Plan for a portion of the Lewis and Clark National Forest in north central Montana. According to the suit, over 50 percent of the Forest lands previously open to motorized vehicle travel were closed by the Travel Plan, which was confirmed as the Forest Service's final decision in January 2008. "We seek balance between protection of natural and historical resources and the ability of a diverse population to enjoy them," said John Borgreen of the Russell Country Sportsmen. "If this decision is allowed to stand, it will eliminate long-honored practices like using vehicles for camping and big-game retrieval, and could force property owners to ride expert-level ATV trails to gain access to their backcountry cabins. Too many trail closures can cause, not reduce, environmental damage at a time when Montanans should proudly defend their rich outdoor culture," Borgreen stated. |

The Federal Government is custodian of large segments of land through out the United States. Much of this land is set aside, or reserved, for a variety of purposes, “for the greater public good.” These public lands are managed by a variety of federal agencies with different core missions. The United States Congress determines the mission of the agency and the reservation of public lands for the greater public good.
The Department of Defense (DoD) holds many acres of public lands reserved for exclusive military purposes in the form of military reservations. For the most part, public access to lands managed by the DoD is restricted. |

The box said “horsepower guaranteed”. And, more important, it was CARB approved. Finally, an air intake system for the pre-1997 Jeep Wrangler that was certified as emissions legal in California. The air intake kit was K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit for the 1991-1995 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0L engine.
Murphy (if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong) and I are old acquaintances. I figured I had an afternoon and a Jeep (Just Enough Extra Parts). Time to find some more horsepower.

The Dodge Ram has been a very dependable truck (yeah, it's got a Hemi) since driving it off the lot five years ago. After 130,000 miles, little things were becoming apparent. The shocks were worn. The brakes were worn. There was a slight vibration in the steering. It was time for suspension upgrades.
I had always wanted to level the truck. Like most trucks, the rear is higher than the front so that it rides level when loaded. I wanted it level rather than the nose down look. But, options included a lift which would raise the truck four inches or more. That meant no more parking garages where vehicle height was limited.
