On October 9th & 10th, 2010, Hang’m High collaborated with US Forest Service to do some much needed work up on the Jose Basin Trail.  On the first day, volunteers built two removable barricades at a waterfall area, which will hopefully keep people on trail and prevent off-trail travel from damaging the resources.  While additional barricades remain to be built, for this area the two provide a great start.

On the second day, volunteers went out on trail to build some water bars too keep the road from eroding and developing deep ruts. Workers had to clear downed trees, remove brush, and dig drainage channels to help with the water flow.

Overall, four water bars were built on the way to waterfall and more work remains too be done. Club members are hoping to be able to get before the snow comes and the gates are closed for the season to accomplish more work.

Hang’m High hosts the Jose Basin Memorial Day run each year and it is their responsibility to ensure that the trail is maintained. They want to be able to keep hosting the run for years to come for the younger generations.

Volunteers from Hang’m High included: President - Brendt Cumming, Vice President - Jeremy Ellis, Secretary - Raenette Terry, Delegate - Brian Shadrick, John and Sarah Balance and two of their younger members, Madison Redding and Joshua Shadrick. Having younger members help with the work will hopefully give them respect for the trail.

This is not the first time the Hang’m High Club has done work on the trail. Last year they helped USFS put in a new gate that had been destroyed. Additional projects include work to close re-routes, repair fencing and gates, and maintain the trails. The Hang’m High Club will be doing more in the future with USFS to keep trails open and clean.
