Attention Colorado Recreationists!

The Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVCO) has schedule several TIGeR Team training classes for the month of June (see schedule below).

Under the new Travel Management Rule, the USFS is required to create a designated system of roads and trails on all national forests and grasslands. The final outcome of the rule will be the production of a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). COHVCO has teamed up with the Forest Service to develop a process to help provide the missing data for those maps. They created the Trail Inventory Gap Resolution (TIGeR) Team concept, where ALL OHV (Dirt Bike, ATV, 4x4 and Snowmobile) road and trail users can assist by collecting GPS data to help fill in missing trail/road gaps. They do this by providing information on existing, well-documented, important, historical roads and trails that do not appear on the agencies baseline inventory of roads and trails. For more information on TIGeR Teams, visit http://tiger.cohvco.org/.

George Gangler, TIGeR Team GPS expert, will be instructing the classes for GPS users on how to use the Global Mapper program. Global Mapper is the program that displays the Forest Service roads and trails and the Forest Service ARC files. You can also put County maps, MVUM maps and others or your tracks on top. It's open to anyone who does some computer GPS work. Pass the word around and bring your laptop.

You should have some computer skills and some familiarity with GPS units so you know how to upload and download data. A laptop is a great tool to bring with you to the class. A real good computer GPS person can get by without one, but most people will need it for the hands on training. Please allow 3 hours with downloading software.

George will have copies of Global Mapper on DVD for $75.00 (regular price $299.00). Please let him know if you are interested in attending. His contact information is listed below.
