Top 5 Items for a Successful Camping Trip

It seems like just about every activity requires some sort of essentials list – hiking, running, mountain biking. Camping is no different. 1.  Navigation – The top item on any camping essentials list is the proper navigation, and your best bet is to bring a variety. First and foremost, a topographic map will be helpful for those campsites that are off the beaten path, such as that one waterfall next to that fallen tree by the weirdly shaped rock.

5 Things to Know About Your First Off-Road Adventure

An off-road adventure is often a fascinating experience. However, it can be scary, especially if you don’t know the basics. You need to take some few minutes to prepare yourself and the vehicle. Here are critical steps you might want to consider.

Know Your Vehicle

Take the vehicle’s manufacturer’s manual and read through it to help you know how it works. For instance, you need to determine whether the vehicle has a high or low ground clearance. A vehicle with a good off-road ability should have a higher ground clearance. The manual will also help you understand how to lock the vehicle in four-wheel drive and when to apply it.

Dune Tour hits Pismo Beach

August 7-8, 2009

With the overwhelming success of the “Rhino Rally at the Dune Tour” in Glamis, Calif. this past March, we are excited to announce the Dune Tour’s next stop will be at the Pismo Beach State Recreation Area.  The famed Dune Tour promises to live up to its claim as the largest event in the western United States! Open to the public and any vehicle, this family-friendly event is packed full of activity.  Mark your calendars and pre register now at www.thedunetour.com

Participant Activities

• Dunes Clean-up
It’s important that we preserve and protect the environment that we are allowed to play in. With the ever growing challenges of anti-access groups, we as users need to do our part. It’s important that we teach our kids that we need to clean up after ourselves before we leave. Sand Addiction Magazine will offer a three (3) issue complimentary subscription to every family who brings a minimum of two (2) bags of trash back to the hospitality area.

• Movie / Bonfire
A Family Friendly Box Office Hit. We take our huge inflatable movie screen and project a family friendly just released Off Road movie. Just like the old drive in days…participants are encouraged to drive their Side x Side, Sand Car or Quad and hang out while watching a movie under the stars.

• Kid Zone
This is a place where kids can be kids and do what they do best; use their imagination by designing their own sand cars or quads in the Kids coloring corner and bouncing around in the jumper for a great time.

• Scavenger Hunt
This is a poker run type event where everyone wins. There is only 5 stop that is manned by participating sponsors. This is not a race, participants are encouraged to take their time and look at all of the great products at each of the stops. When finished, they return their stamped card to the registration area entry into the opportunity drawing. This event is free to participate.

• Show & Shine
Classes available for registration:
-Yamaha Rhino
-Long travel sand car
-Beam cars
-Dirt bikes
-Side X Side
-Best Random, because you never know what somebody is going to create!

Awards will be given to:
• Best in Show
• Best in each class

To register your ride visit the registration table. Winners will be announced at the end of the afternoon raffle. The Grand prize for each class in the Show & Shine contest is a two page feature of the vehicle in Sand Addiction Magazine.

• Lunch
Lunch will be available to all participants that have purchased an event Package for $12.00. The Event package consists of an event T-shirt, event goodie bag, a meal ticket, and a wrist band. Family packs are available for $35.00. On the menu will be hot dogs, hamburgers, potato chips and a soft drink. During lunch, participants will be returning from the Scavenger Hunt and the Show & Shine will be begin.

• Opportunity Drawing
The Dune Tour hosts the largest opportunity drawing of FREE products you will find in the dunes. We offer this drawing at 3 different times. Friday Night after the movie Saturday during lunch and Saturday night during the karaoke party.  There are multiple ways to enter the drawing…for free! Participants can register at the main table to get a wristband that offers an entry ticket. Participants in the scavenger hunt will receive a second entry when they come back with their card fully stamped. If two isn’t good enough, they can purchase more at the main table. Winners must be present to win.

• Karaoke Party/ Bonfire
We have added some spice to Saturday night. How about a Karaoke Party with a grand prize. We will have registration for participants throughout the day and will pull a family crowd for a great show!

• Demo Rides
The Dune Tour has partnered with Yamaha and Kawasaki to be on-site with their demo crew; come ride the latest machines for FREE.

• ATV Safety Training
Being a family friendly event we feel it’s important to teach the little ones correct riding habits from the beginning. That’s why at the Dune Tour we coordinate efforts with the ATV Safety Institute to offer Safety Certification Courses to our participants. Space is limited, so don’t hesitate to RSVP with This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 909-794-4601

Retrofitting a Factory Air Locker into a Gen-II Montero/Pajero

Can I mount the complete Mitsubishi system?

Yes, but know that electric parts are different (or at least located in different places) from LWB/SWB, from '94 and earlier/'95 and later (depending on where they are sold). My electric parts came from a '95 SWB and fitted in my '97 LWB. However, do this simple check: remove the little plastic cover at the left of the electric plug (the one in the dash, under the radio bay) and you should find a little connector.
