UNITED in Partnership with USA-All Law Suit Against the BLM

Carla Boucher, United Four Wheel Drive Associations

United Four Wheel Drive Associations is participating in an innovative partnership with the Utah Shared Access Alliance and the BlueRibbon Coalition in support of a law suit filed by USA-All to require the BLM to engage in environmental planning pertaining to OHV use in Utah. The action was filed in United States District Court in Utah on October 17, 2001.

USA-All has forged a new path in developing a unique partnership with attorneys from UNITED FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ASSOCIATIONS and the BlueRibbon Coalition. The parties hope this fresh approach will steer the BLM toward proper planning for OHV use in place of short-cut management via emergency closure orders used by the BLM.

The participants hope this cooperative action signals a new way for access advocates to do business. "Groups have supported one another as co-plaintiffs, with financial support, or as Intervenors in the past, but never before have three such powerful groups joined legal forces in this manner to develop an impressive legal case", stated Carla Boucher, nationally recognized attorney for United Four Wheel Drive Associations and one of a trio of attorneys working on this case.

Paul Mortensen is a formidable litigator who serves as general counsel for USA-All. Paul Turcke, legal counsel for BlueRibbon Coalition, is a veteran of dozens of cases in federal courts across the country involving recreation and public lands issues. Together, this trio of attorneys and organizations hope to move public lands access litigation to new heights, ensuring a new level of success in the courtroom and within the agency.

"Working with these two groups and with two of the finest land use attorneys in the country is an honor. Together we can be unstoppable.", stated Carla Boucher, an attorney respected in the land use community for her highly successful work in keeping public lands accessible.

United Four Wheel Drive Associations is an international organization of four wheel drive enthusiasts dedicated to the conservation and utilization of public lands. The Utah Shared Access Alliance is a Utah organization formed to represent the interests of those who prefer or require the use of vehicles for access and recreation on public land.
