In a showing of support as the environmental stewards they are, many motorized OHV enthusiasts from the Pacific North West 4 Wheel Drive Association, Oregon BushHackers, Pacific Land Rovers, Brush Busters, Jolly Jeepers, and various other 4x4, motorcycle, all-terrain-vehicle and snowmobile clubs participated in the April 29, 2000 Stop Oregon Litter & Vandalism (SOLV) cleanup of the Tillamook State Forest in Oregon's breath-taking northern coastal mountain range.
At that event, only ONE Sierra Club member showed up after a valiant effort by the local "Tillamook State Park" committee head, Kristi Dubois, to get as many of the 6500 local Sierra Club members to show up as posssible. Over 50 OHV enthusiasts showed up to pull cars and sofas out of the forest. Needless to say, organizers were somewhat humiliated by the lack of interest of other Sierra Club members.
The SOLV cleanup, coinciding with Earth Day, will be on Saturday, April 21, 2001. Organizers report there are currently 5 abandon cars and another tire dump they need help removing, along with the normal road and trail litter removal tasks. Says Roger Christal of the Oregon BushHackers, "Let's get out there and show those nasty Sierra Clubbers who the REAL environmentalists are! Hey, it's only 2 or 3 hours of work and the rest of the day for wheelin'. LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER AND EMBARRASS THE SIERRA CLUB AGAIN THIS YEAR! "
