Morongo Basin Search and Rescue Team Fund-Raiser: The Desert Run - Oct 5-7, 2001

Every year the Morongo Basin Search and Rescue Team and Bureau of Land Management cosponsor the Desert Run at Soggy Dry Lake in the Johnson Valley Off Highway Vehicle Park between Yucca Valley and Lucerne Valley off Highway 247. This event is a fund-raiser for the Morongo Basin Sheriff Department Search and Rescue Team; a non-profit volunteer organization and money raised is used to purchase new equipment and training for the unit.

The Desert Run is an off highway driving course approximately 20 miles long featuring rocks, sandy washes, hills, and beautiful desert scenery. Along the way are some extreme routes for hard-core rock crawlers. If you don’t feel comfortable with an obstacle along the course, bypasses are provided.

This year will be the 22nd Annual Desert Run and will be the biggest and best with three fun filled days. Scheduled events include a Vehicle Blindfold Obstacle Course, Motorcycle/Quad Obstacle Course, Truck/Jeep Teeter-Totter, Vehicle Articulation Ramp, Paint Ball Arcade, kids games, drawings, manufactures displays and live entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings. A prize drawing is scheduled for Saturday night.

The event is open to anyone who can legally drive his or her off road vehicle. Motorcycles, Quads, Rails and ATV’s must have valid California Green Off-Road Sticker. California Motor Vehicle laws apply and helmets and seat belts must be worn at all times. All drivers must be registered to participate.

You can pre-register prior to September 15 or register when you arrive at the event. To pre-register, send your check for $35.00 to:

Morongo Basin SAR
PO Box 982
Yucca Valley, CA. 92286

On-site registeration is $40 per vehicle. Pre-registration checks must be postmarked by September 15, 2001. Due to the volume of entries, confirmation notices will not be mailed out however; you may call (760) 369-9999 or email the Morongo Basin Search and Rescue Team to confirm your entry has been received. If you are paying for more than one entry, be sure to include everyone’s name on a piece of paper.
